Inspiration, A Good Place To Start

When I first began writing Close To Dark, I read Carmilla, a haunting vampire story by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. It’s a quiet story, but it gave me chills. I read other stories as well, and while researching, came across an interesting idea about how early vampires obtained blood: they used a long, sharp tongue to bore a hole into their victims. This fascinated me and I gave the detail to one of my characters.

Although Alida is a supernatural being, her story is a very human one, and I wanted some of the settings to be realistic. The ice cave is a real place, although I used my imagination to craft something slightly different to fit my story.

And gargoyles. Yup, they feature prominently in my book. I love gargoyles, not only because of how they look, but also because of what they represent and how they have evolved over time.

I don’t know what will inspire me next, but I can’t wait to see what crosses my path. Thanks for dropping by my blog!
